As awareness for organic products increases, producers are changing their farming methods. Conventional production can be costly and can expose farmers to harsh agrochemicals if the necessary precautions aren’t taken. Thus, CIGRAH is proud to be working with Honduran coffee cooperatives that are certified organic with OCIA, Naturland and BioLatina.

In Honduras, farming using organic methods typically involves using “gallinaza” (bird manure), "bocashy" (a mixture of coffee pulp), manure, molasses, yeasts and other dry matter as fertilizers. These nature-friendly ingredients have had good results in terms of yields.

Honduran organic farming typically goes hand in hand with the preservation of shade canopies. Farmers here say that organic farming is doing it “como Dios manda” (as God intended it), in complete harmony with nature.
